The head of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, said today that the Foundation's Festival of Cante de las Minas de la Union guarantees the future of the tournament with a quite solid foundation and reaffirms its reputation nationally and internationally.
Valcárcel made the remarks in La Union, where he chaired the first meeting of the Board of Trustees Cante de las Minas, in institutional terms the municipality in which he also inaugurated the new headquarters of the local police and the offices of Youth Space.
The regional chief executive was accompanied by the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, by the Minister of Presidency and Public Administration, María Pedro Reverte, and the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz.
Following the meeting of the Board of the Foundation, Valcárcel called this day as a day "historic" for the Festival, because it gives an appropriate management tool to the international dimension.
Coinciding with the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the Festival del Cante de las Minas, through the Foundation, has failed to provide cultural event "a proper management authority to its magnitude," the president stressed.
La Fundación del Cante de las Minas, which was formed last February, aims to research, publication and support for interdisciplinary projects, and the convening of case conferences and meetings related to the world of flamenco.
This edition of the Festival del Cante de las Minas continue to be managed from the City of La Union, while in 2011 its management will rest with the new institution.
Foundation in 2010 will also assume management of the Flamenco Art School, in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the International Congress on Cantes Miners Flamenco in collaboration with the University of Murcia, and the Museo del Cante de las Minas.
Also during the celebration of the fiftieth anniversary of the flamenco festival, will become president of the Community who gave the opening speech at this year's Festival del Cante de las Minas.
The Community will invest two million euros in infrastructure
Following the meeting of the Board of Trustees, Valcárcel inaugurated new premises for the local police of the municipality, the Youth Space and several works of semipeatonalización the village, where the Community has invested a total of 1,926,061 euros.
An infrastructure, said the president, "are important not so much economic investment in itself, but because they are service use and enjoyment of citizens; to ensure their safety and for the young."
The local police headquarters and works of semipeatonalización, both actions financed by the Community, "allow a significant improvement in the provision of police services and public spaces by all the inhabitants of La Union," said Chairman .
The facilities at the new headquarters of the Local Police in La Union are located in the building of El Progreso, former town hall, dating from 1880.
The police forces used the ground floor and basement, while the rest of the building houses, municipal services like the library, the Adult Education Center or the Magistrates Court and Civil Registration.
The area under the police is 600 square meters, divided into offices, meeting rooms, training room, locker rooms, fitness center and customer service area.
The autonomous region has contributed a total of 843,221 euros for the refurbishment of the building of El Progreso.
In particular, the Ministry of the Presidency and government 182,928 euros earmarked for police facilities, of which 95,678 euros related to the execution of the works, and other 87,250 euros for the purchase of equipment.
The new facility also will make a significant improvement in working conditions of the 34 professionals who currently comprise the staff of the local police, equipped with greater breadth and functionality that today.
Semipeatonalización Street and renovation of two downtown plazas
Semipeatonalización works of the village looking to improve accessibility to the more traditional core asset of the town, shaped by a set of narrow but high commercial activity.
The work, funded with € 800,000, is cobbled paving of downtown streets, removal of architectural barriers, installation of new street furniture, landscaping, sidewalks and underground power lines, among other actions.
This work also includes the refurbishment of two new positions, also inaugurated today by the president.
Square Brothers Pedreño Pagan, former Walt Disney, which has been comprehensively refurbished and has new parks, banks, children's play areas and 40 parking spaces, and the square Journalist García Mateos, located opposite the new barracks Local police, which has also been fully equipped and has new lighting and street furniture.
Finally, the head of the Murcia visited the new premises of the Youth Space in the old building of the Telegraph House, which significantly improves the facilities for leisure, recreation, cultural and alternative education for young people in the municipality.
This project received a grant of 282,840 euros autonomous.
The building, with two floors, has customer service offices, computer room, ballroom, sound booths, meeting rooms, waiting rooms and multiple uses, among others.
