The Mayor of La Union, Francisco Barnabas, and the Director of Public Works, José Ballesta, presided the ceremony of handing over the keys of the houses in the second phase of rehabilitation of the district of San Gil.
They have also taken part in this ceremony, the Managing Director of the Institute of Housing and Lands, Joan Brown, and Secretary General of the Government Commission, José Camarasa.
In this second phase has rehabilitated a total of 24 houses.
One of the houses have been fitted out as a social club.
In particular, we have carried out work of recovery of structural elements of buildings, accessibility, adequacy of common elements and habitable housing.
Also, since you are running the 24 homes that completed the second phase of rehabilitation.
It is envisaged that the latter houses are completed later this year.
The total cost of rehabilitation of these 48 homes is 1,200,000 euros.
For the Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, "giving the keys to these homes will allow its tenants live at last in decent conditions."
"This is another important step within the target we have set ourselves: to rehabilitate the entire neighborhood of San Gil and integrate it into the fabric of the municipality."
This action is a first phase, the recovery of 12 homes in the neighborhood, which ended in December 2008.
The rehabilitation works of social housing in the neighborhood are a result of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Public Works, the City of La Union and the Sierra Minera Foundation for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the area
In addition to the recovery in housing rehabilitation project covers San Gil comprehensive social rehabilitation work aimed at families that is being executed by the City Council Social Services and Fundación Sierra Minera, who share a social center in the rehabilitated units of neighborhood to undertake this project.
Finally, Barnabas and Ballesta inaugurated San Gil Street after improvement works and conditioning that have been made in that way.
Within the work of preparation of this road has been an important work of improving the sewerage system where you have deleted a zone of flooding in the urban area of this village, located between the streets and Torrijo Esperanto Language .
Along with this improvement, have also been the work of asphalting the road, to increase durability and improve track conditions, resulting in safer driving.
It has also undertaken the renovation of sidewalks and curbs, as well as the replacement of signals horizontal, vertical and beacon.
The arrangement of Calle San Gil is valued at 300,000 euros.
Finally, the Mayor noted that the refurbishment of the street San Gil will conclude with the lighting in a project valued at 120,000 euros.
