The Association of Foreign Press Correspondents in Spain has delivered its Cultural Award 2010, the national event of its kind in the international scene, the Festival del Cante de las Minas de La Unión.
The award was presented during a ceremony held at the Jardines de Cecilio Rodríguez, in the Parque de El Retiro, in Madrid, under the chairmanship of First Deputy Prime Minister of Spain, Maria Teresa Fernandez de La Vega.
The other winners at the 2010 roster in the other categories have been the regional president Patxi Lopez and Antonio Basagoite (Politics), football coach Pep Guardiola (Sports) and the international press correspondent Gervasio Sanchez (Labor Humanitarian).
Javier Solana, until recently foreign minister of the European Union over the past ten years and former Secretary General of NATO, has received the Special Award for his long career.
Licensors of distinction have highlighted the fact that this year, during the celebration of the Golden Jubilee of the event unionense the Cante de las Minas Flamenco Festival becomes dean in the number of global issues, which together the seriousness, rigor and prestige has always been the hallmark of his competition as a means of preserving the Levantine mining songs make this event a unique and exceptional case.
Our Mayor and Chairman of the Festival, Francisco Bernabé, has described the event as a special importance as it comes to assume the highest accolade possible at this international event.

The Association of Foreign Correspondents in Spain was officially established in 1923 and currently has 110 international media partners, representing more than two hundred media from five continents.
El Cante de las Minas, event declared of International Tourist Interest, has also the Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia, being currently in process with the Ministry of Culture his candidacy for the award of the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts .
