The comprehensive refurbishment and improvement of San Gil road along its entire length over 1 Km in length have been completed after several months of work.
The work carried out has involved the construction of sidewalks on both sides of the roadway, replacement of asphalt and placement of new vertical and horizontal road signs.
The total cost of the work amounted to 300,000 euros, which have been fully covered by the Ministry of Public Works and Planning of the Region of Murcia under an agreement signed with our City.
The new infrastructure, thanks to its new configuration and construction of new roundabouts, including the crossings of the Red Cross and Mercadona supermarket, situated in the two ends of the avenue, have been allowed to set up a new way of unblocking the traffic in the town center, especially the area between Royal Street and the Avenue of the Mediterranean.
The Mayor, Francisco Bernabé, announced in early 2010 to install new street lights all along this street, which will definitely give it to enable the best possible performance.
In addition, works have been completed to improve access to the Barrio de Las Oliveras in the Garbanzal, which have involved the expansion of the road, paving of new roads and resulting placement of curbs and sidewalks.
The contract amounted to a total of 90,000 euros, which have been funded entirely from the Plan E of the Ministry of Public Administration.
The Department of Infrastructure intends shortly to undertake the work of road markings in the area.
