The Plenum of the Municipal Corporation has agreed to vote in favor of PP and IU and PSOE abstention, to name a favorite son of the city of La Union, posthumously, the journalist and writer Pascual García Mateos, who died in Cartagena May 29.
The Mayor of La Unión, Bernabe Francisco, said it is "a well-deserved recognition to a person who has been a benchmark for communication throughout the region, besides being a major driver in the cultural field in our city."
Mateos Garcia spent more than half a century of journalism.
He was correspondent of the newspaper La Verdad, La Opinion, National Radio of Spain and the EFE Agency.
Similarly, he was President of the Regional Association of Press, Radio and Television for ten years.
The professional life of Pascual Garcia Mateos has been linked to the Festival del Cante de las Minas from the beginning, as it was the first presenter at the beginning of the contest.
