The director general of tourism infrastructure, Marina Garcia, presided today at the City of La Union's first meeting with the councilors of different consistories Tourism in the Region of Murcia, who convened to exchange ideas and projects.
The meeting introduced the Theme Park of Mines to be located in the Sierra Minera, a "major" project that aims to "make the Union in respect of regional tourism," according to Marina Garcia.
Also reported current situation and explained Tourist Consortia subsidies, grants and initiatives implemented from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and eligible local entities.
Garcia said the regional tourism "is responding very positively despite the current crisis, as evidenced by the fact that last year 5,086,493 tourists visited the region."
The director said that during the first three months of the year the number of foreign tourists to the region experienced a rise of 4.7 percent, while the whole country fell by 16 percent.
After the meeting in the Casa del Pinon, who attended this first meeting of responsible tourism in the Region of Murcia, accompanied by the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, Vicenta Groups visited the mine.
The mine, which dates from 1864, remained open until mid-twentieth century, for the extraction of pyrite.
This is one of the mines visited Europe's largest, with more than 2,300 square meters to 80 meters deep.
Its opening is scheduled for next summer.

The Directorate General of Tourism Infrastructure anticipated that this first meeting with the council of Tourism in the Region of Murcia is performed periodically in different parts of regional geography in order to maintain institutional contacts with the leaders in the field of tourism local authorities of the Region.
Garcia stressed that this meeting with regional tourism officials "also serves to publicize the resources of each municipality."
