The Institute for Housing and Land in the Region of Murcia autonomous agency of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport, has tendered the second phase of the regeneration of the district of San Gil, La Union.
This project is budgeted at 1.5 million euros, and plans to rebuild 48 homes as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation program whereby, in a first phase, performed on 12 other homes.
The regeneration program of the district, which comprises a group of 152 social housing units built in 1980 by the National Housing Institute, is owned by the Autonomous Community, the City of La Union Foundation and Sierra Minera.
Thanks to it, the homes - built in a day within a national plan to eradicate slums - will be demolished in those areas with a state of ruin, as well as obtain improved sanitation and the rebuilding of their spaces.
The complete set is distributed in 4 blocks of three floors around a large interior space, for which we have budgeted 3 million euros, of which we have already invested EUR 891,641 in the first phase, which continues to 1,499. 975 euros for the second phase.

The managing director of the Housing and Land Institute (IVS), Jane Brown, recalled that "there is a budget for rehabilitation of housing stock, which reached 2 million, one of the measures incorporated into the Plan to Vitalise Murcia developed by the Government of the Region, which has a special draft in disadvantaged sectors of the population. "
According to Brown, "the social and physical conditions in which this group is home made it necessary to design a framework for joint action with all concerned authorities for urban and social transformation in the neighborhood of San Gil.
Therefore, the Regional Government has relied on the City of La Union, which carried out the restructuring of the urban district to provide the urban services and equipment appropriate to the existing social demands and the social development program has been working in Sierra Minera Foundation. "
The Foundation is doing in this neighborhood social reintegration work with families in various areas: children, women and family, community and youth.
The programs are conducted in premises that have been assigned in the same block, which is allowed to complete the formative period of children, youth and adults, promote the employability of young unemployed people engage in rehabilitation and maintenance of housing, generating alternative leisure-time occupation and, ultimately, improve the health of the population.
Finally, the managing director of IVS is scheduled recalled that the signing of an agreement setting out the full program of activities which include the call for a design competition for the management and the proposed new urban neighborhood of San Gil and environment.
