The regeneration project and environmental soundness of Portman Bay in the municipality of La Union, was awarded today by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment to the joint venture formed by Acciona, SATO and Continental and budget proceedings is 33.4 million euros, according to the Community confirmed today the Secretary of State for Environment, Pablo Saavedra.
This procedure is part of the total regeneration process jointly driving the Government of Spain and the regional government, which aims to restore the natural state of the bay.
The recruitment process for the regeneration of the bay began on June 19 with the permission of the Cabinet to begin processing.
Then on July 23, the tender for the work was published in the Official Gazette, with a lead time of 46 months.
The regeneration will involve the recovery of 250 meters seaward from the coastline, on the occasion of the dumping activity for decades, it was modified, standing today at 550 meters from the original and with a depth of about four meters .
To do this, it proceeds to the withdrawal of some two million cubic meters of overburden, which will move to the short miner San Jose, and the regeneration of the new beach reusing materials present and the contribution of limestone sand crushing to improve its grain.
The project will have joined environmental remedial measures and complementary corresponding Environmental Monitoring Plan, according to the positive Environmental Impact Statement published in the Official Gazette on February 22, 2011.
