Last Monday was held in the Auditorium "Isaac Peral" of the Faculty of Business Science, Polytechnic University of Cartagena, the ceremony for the International Awards given by the International Foundation Center for Heritage Conservation ( CICOP), and the Union granted this award in the category of best work of the Preservation and Restoration of Industrial Heritage.
Has been awarded this important distinction to our town for the contribution they are carrying out in recent years towards the conservation of the cultural heritage of mining heritage, symbolizing respect for the sign of identity of the people of La Union, putting up a model of respectful and sustainable development of universal values ​​that represents the reinvention of mining and Flemish city.
Our Mayor, Julio Garcia wanted to thank this destacadísimo recognition, which places our city at the forefront in the struggle to regain our mining heritage and commissioning of Mining Park or new museums, plus the extensive stock-raising conducted with the recovery of historic buildings or the enhancement of mining machinery for the ornamentation of streets and squares of our town, and the many social, cultural and educational actions promoted from the Guildhall in this regard.
The rest of Prizes were awarded to the Real Alcázar of Seville (architectural heritage), Cartagena Port of Cultures (cultural landscapes), Iron Island (cultural heritage) and the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (dissemination of cultural heritage).
