The Secretary for Development, Mario Garcés Sanagustín, together with the Mayor of La Union and Executive Chairman of the Cante, Francisco Bernabé de las Minas Foundation and President of POST, Javier Cuesta Nuin, today unveiled the stamp POST devoted to "The flamenco. Festival del Cante de las Minas de La Unión ".
The event was held at 10 am in the City of La Union and in the same the Government Commissioner, Joaquín García Bascuñana and the Director General of Cultural Industries, Marta López-Briones also attended.
In recent years flamenco has starred in more than fifteen stamps.
In 1996 and three stamps dedicated to celebrities related as José Monge Cruz sing, Camarón de la Isla, Lola Flores Carmen Amaya or were issued.
From that year also collected philately stamps in their images of other linked flamenco as Joaquín Cortés, Sara Baras, Cristina Hoyos and Jose Merce, Julián Arcas, until the recent issue dedicated to artists Paco Lucia in 2014, to remember the guitarist after his death.
The stamp was presented today was issued last May, together with another stamp dedicated to the feast of Patios de Córdoba.
Both events have recently been declared by UNESCO as Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
The stamp is printed in intaglio and color process, with a circulation of 300,000 souvenir sheets and a face value of 2 €.
The design is by Francisco Fidalgo.
To Francisco Bernabé, with this decision, which comes after the recent surveys of Spain Brand and the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, the Government's commitment to the nation is shown to maximize the Festival del Cante de las Minas allowing his image and that of La Union travel the world as the symbol par excellence of flamenco culture.
