The Council of Ministers of the Government of Spain has agreed in its meeting today, Friday March 14, 2014, granting the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts at International Festival del Cante de las Minas de La Unión.
The decision is a milestone in the history of flamenco, it is the first festival of flamenco music receives, as well as regional level, since it is the first event of the Autonomous Community of Murcia who holds such consideration.
The awarding of the Gold Medal was made at the request of the requests in this regard from the Foundation Cante de las Minas, which in recent years has brought hundreds of accessions of the most important artists of flamenco and more flagship representatives of the social, cultural and political life of our country, who unanimously supported enough, just and appropriate initiative.
Our Mayor and CEO of the Foundation Cante de las Minas, Francisco Bernabé, has expressed immense satisfaction felt by the people of La Union and the great family of Cante de las Minas for this distinction, the most important cultural level that is granted in Spain, and already standing with Statutory and permanently, the Festival del Cante de las Minas as the most important of those Flemish event taking place in our country, which is to say the world.
