These actions are part of the Hispano-French project "Research on mining and metallurgy of lead and silver during the Roman period in Carthago Nova", currently funded by the Casa de Velázquez in Madrid and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of France, and with the collaboration of other institutions such as the Universities of Toulouse and Murcia, and the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia.
Until now have developed six excavation campaigns have resulted in the exhumation of part of an archaeological complex linked to the mineral processing or ore pretreatment, ie the mechanical preparation of ores extracted in their environment-argentiferous galena - by grinding processes, roasting and washing the ore mined, aimed at the concentration and enrichment of minerals as a prelude to further casting.

On the other hand, the research team, among which is located unionense archaeologist Juan Antonio Antolinos, is also investigating a Roman mine II-I centuries BC located on the western slope of the same Cabezo del Pino, in the upper part of the Abenque Rambla.
Currently already been explored and topografiado in this field more than 3 miles Indoor mining operations, with a height of 50 meters and an area of ​​4 hectares.
The work of this summer season have ended in a very satisfactory, with the discovery of important findings related to the mining history of the area and that, surely, will foster the continuation of the excavations in the future towards their recovery and enhancement.
