The Municipal Socialist Group in the City of La Union has filed a motion for debate in plenary today which calls for the removal of the Christmas bonus of the mayor and councilors with full-time basis.
By Royal Decree-Law 20/2012 of 13 July, the Government has agreed to the abolition of the bonus in December 2012 for all public sector staff, including officials and staff working in the municipalities.
Oliver said that although the elected members of local councils are not affected by that measure, "for coherence and solidarity with the employees of the City Council is necessary to extend the mayor and councilors released by altering their remuneration for 2012 in the sense suppress the fourteenth or bonus paid in December.
The Municipal Socialist Group spokesperson, Mariano Oliver explained that given the crisis situation and the existing high unemployment rate the municipality of La Union, strengthening of social policies for persons who suffer most from its effects.
"So we asked the appropriations released as a result of the removal of the extra pay is intended to increase the starting 22636 on Social Services Expenditure and Primary Care."
Also, the PSOE has asked the government team to commit to not reducing the amount of that item over this year. "
