This morning we have proceeded to perform the official ceremony of laying the first stone of the new home for the elderly and dependent people of La Union.
The event was chaired by our Mayor, Francisco Barnabas, by the Director General of Social Action Murcia, Fernando Mateo, the Senior Director General, Enrique Perez and Diagram Foundation President Francisco Legaz, which were accompanied by several councilors of the government team and representatives of various groups of the municipality as the Homes for the Elderly, Red Cross and organizations.
The project includes the construction of a round access to the complex, located in front of Pio Garden, on the road from The Camachos, and a large building, divided into several modules, with total capacity of 225 seats, of which 80% be concerted with the Autonomous Region and 20% of private direct management.
The total budget amounts to EUR 10.5 million, fully provided by the Foundation Diagram as promoter of the center, making it the largest private investment ever in the history of the town.
Barnabas has stressed the dual importance of this action, on the one hand, will allow meeting the needs of geriatric and dependent places in La Union and the whole region, and on the other hand, when fully operational will be capable of generating several hundred jobs directly and indirectly, a matter absolutely essential in the times we are living.
It is expected that the works are completed in late 2013 and that the center can open its doors in early 2014.
