The young students of the Union enjoy these days of the second edition of "Know Your History", an outreach program of the History and Culture organized by the municipality local unionense since last year, to mark the 150 anniversary of the municipality and Golden Jubilee of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas.
Aimed at students of 6th Primary and 3 of ESO, this program runs throughout the month of May with the participation of some four hundred school children from schools in the town and the hamlets of Portman and Roche, who receive an offer structured into two main levels, one theoretical and practical.
The theoretical section, held in the Auditorium of the City of La Union, is in talks with audiovisual support and content suited to young people addressing the General History of the Municipality, from prehistory to the present day, thanks Francisco Rodenas, Official Chronicler The Union and the History of Flamenco and the Festival del Cante de las Minas, through talks and flamenco researcher Francisco Paredes.
Explains Francisco Rodenas, its consist of "a historical account of the origins and social and economic development of La Union, traits that made a genuine identity and seasoned with curves show population, elements of daily life or photographs characters like Mary Cegarra or 'Uncle Wolf', a true 'total history' suited to young people '. "
For its part, Paredes said that in his talks "we talked about the songs of La Union during the 151 year history of the town, and its development and evolution since the beginning of the Festival del Cante de las Minas to date," sessions where provides biographical information on famous people of flamenco song and where it affects the local flamenco intra thanks to a series of previously unpublished images and music clips belong your records.
