The City of La Union will acquire the industrial property of the lifting machine for conversion into a cultural center, social, museum, research and vocational training and business of the municipality, once the facilities are fully rehabilitated and that space has been built in the town of La Union.
This is what emerges from a final protocol approved by the Governing Board of the City of La Union last Friday, May 6, in which the municipality and the company Residential Engineer, SL, owner of The Machinist Levante undertake to carry out the acquisition of the industrial complex by the municipality.
The objective here is to locate the City Industrial Museum of the lifting machine, the Museum of the Arts Union, a workshop for municipal employment to the industrial training of youth in the municipality, a large social space and youth, and a business incubator dedicated to new technologies and renewable energy, and other agencies for municipal and community groups, as a space for cinema projection.
Before transfer the property to the municipality, the company Residential Engineer, SL must fully rehabilitate the buildings of the plant, assuming all costs of operation and then getting in return a series of compensation in respect of buildable for residential use in the complex .
The facilities of the lifting machine, now in disuse, have an area of ​​19,816 m², of which 7,567 m² are occupied technical and administrative offices, a warehouse of machines and accessories, and various workshops, such as boiler or assembly , among other places belonging to this important endeavor unionense dedicated to iron and steel industry from 1890 until its closure in 1988.
In addition to the renovation of buildings, roads and existing public spaces, the parties have agreed that the future design and development of space also involves a transformation aimed at integrating urban and unite physically complex with the town of La Union, favoring walking and transit everyday citizens, which will run for an underpass under the railroad FEVE to permit the passage of people and vehicles.
COLLECTION OF INDUSTRIAL DESIGNS
The next rehabilitation and acquisition of the lifting machine is part of the important work that the City of La Union has been developing for the recovery of historical heritage of the municipality and its value for cultural and tourism, and in this case was preceded for the acquisition of a large collection of industrial design models.
