1) FOCUS ON TOURISM.
From the City of La Union, is made an indispensable work to promote tourism in the municipality.
The enhancement, retrieval and dissemination of industrial mining heritage of the Sierra Minera-so inextricably linked to the history of the town, is one of the basic pillars of the municipality and the council, which has committed itself to the tourism sector as one of the more sustainable forms of growth and development of the economy, employment and preservation of its history and culture.
Currently, and municipal level, the main tourism product being developed is the "Parque Minero de La Union" which is defined as the major project that will differentiate Union market and promote tourism in the Sierra Minera, and their flagship.
Within the Mining Park, Vicenta Groups underground mine is the main attraction, however in the park, one can follow the road of 33, the backbone of the whole.
Along the way, there are other interesting relics dating from the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, such as the roasting oven, the laundry of "Paid", the raft of mud, and the facilities of the mine " Paul et Virginie ", old magazines, and the vein of tin in the mine" Paid. "
Another great example of our town of immense media coverage, is the celebration of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas, which this year 2010 has celebrated its 50 anniversary.
Since 1961, which held its first edition, this festival has taken root, and since then they have been going on continuously issues, establishing itself year after year, and becoming as the most important flamenco event in the world, no wonder it been declared of International Tourist Interest, annually attracting hundreds of tourists from different countries come to La Union to enjoy it.
From the bowels of La Union and its Sierra Minera our songs were born half a century ago.
The Festival was in charge during his first forty-eight issues of conservation.
Now, thanks to the establishment this year of Cante de las Minas Foundation, an institution born of agreement and consensus between the three governments with jurisdiction in the matter, namely the Ministry of Culture, Government of Spain, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Government of the Region of Murcia, and the Hon.
City of La Union, ensures that our prestigious Festival del Cante de las Minas can still be an international benchmark.
The result of the establishment of the Foundation Cante de las Minas, have come through the following projects, all permanent foci of cultural attractions to our town:
§ El Museum del Cante de las Minas, recently opened and located opposite the tourist office in the building "House Pinion," which can be considered itself as a museum itself.
The host of the Museum of Cante de las Minas has been great, averaging a thousand visitors a month.
§ The conclusion of the First Congress of Miners Cantes during the month of June this year and will be repeated every year.
§ The next launch of Flamenco Art School of La Union.
The challenge is to turn the Union capital of Flamenco over three hundred and sixty five days a year, not only during the days of the Festival.
And we can not discuss culturally relevant events in the Union without mentioning our Easter.
Unionense processions movement is unmistakable identity in the "definition mining" of their parades.
In 1995 he won a deserved recognition of the procession of Cristo de los Mineros (Holy Thursday) and Regional Tourist Interest party, and is currently working towards recognition as a National Tourist Interest.
Coinciding each year with Easter is celebrated in collaboration with the Federation of Associations of Employers of La Union, Mineral and Fossil Fair, which sets and offer for sale the most curious and strange pieces brought in by exhibitors, mineral collection, etc.., is installed in the Old Public Market, one of the emblems of our historic mining town.
