The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Javier Celdrán, attended yesterday a flamenco gala in which he was awarded the 'Cathedral of the Cante' award of the Festival of Cante de Las Minas de La Union.
This year, the award went to Belgium, a country where flamenco is increasingly present, and was picked up by the Belgian ambassador in Spain, Marc Calcoen.
Also at the gala the holder of Culture, as president of the Camino de la Cruz Foundation, presented a replica of the Cruz de Caravaca to the Mayor of La Unión, Pedro López, as president of the Cante de las Minas Foundation, with Reason for the celebration, this 2017, of the Jubilee Year.
The Minister highlighted the cultural legacy of Cante de las Minas, "one of the main flamenco events in the world, a festival that crosses borders and reveals the region's cultural and tourist wealth".
Therefore, he added, "we wanted to twin the festival with another event of great significance such as the Jubilee Year through the delivery of its most representative emblem, the double-cross representing one of the five holy cities of the world, Caravaca Of the Cross, around which have organized this year from the regional government about a hundred activities that go beyond religious tourism.
