The XVI National Theatre Festival 'José Baeza Clemares' La Union held this year from 11 to 19 November at the Centro Cultural Asensio Sáez and participate five companies, four of them in competition.
The general director of the Institute of Cultural Industries and the Arts (ICA), Marta Lopez-Briones, along with the councilors of Education and Culture of the Union, Carmen Riquelme and Economic Development, Business Development, Training and Employment, Ana Maria Rodriguez, today presented the program of the festival will be dedicated to the artist, set designer and costume designer unionense, Francisco Conesa, who died a few months ago.

The performances of the Contest 'Baeza Clemares' will start on November 11 with performances by Badar-Kablar Theatre, one of the oldest companies in the Union, which present the comedy show 'Gastro-Chonia'.
The next day, the company unionense Portmán Theatre will stage the classic Federico García Lorca 'The House of Bernarda Alba, "a drama that will be directed by Francisco Garcia Vicente and Sanchez Maya Baldo.
Molière's comedy 'The Imaginary Invalid' will be performed on Thursday 17 by the Group of Teatro San Javier, with Leonor Benitez ahead.
On Friday 18 Miguel Mihura satire 'Three hats' will take the stage with the Company Impossible Rehearse Together, also of San Javier.
The four companies in the region will compete for six awards given each year in this contest (the best company, best director and best actors and main and distribution actresses) and consisting of a ceramic sculpture by students center for people with disabilities Andrés Martínez Canovas.
The awards have no prize money, but from the City of La Union helps selected for participation in the competition companies.
The program will end on Saturday November 19 with the company Murcia Cambalache Theatre, created thirty years, which will offer 'Cute Don Diego', comedy Agustín Moreto, with version and direction of Baldo Maya Sanchez ago, whose staging keeps original action in the seventeenth century Madrid.

Baeza Clemares
Jose Baeza Clemares (Alumbres, 1857 La Union, 1920) is one of the biggest names in the scene in La Union.
His figure embodies the golden age of theater in the mining town between the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
For forty years, from 1880 to 1920, he worked as an actor, stage director and impresario of the company that bore his name.
Baeza interpreted and directed all kinds of productions, from comedy to drama, but noted for their versions of the works of Nobel Prize José Echegaray.
The main theater of the Union witnessed their performances and a street in the town bears his name.
