The Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, participated last Friday in an official event on "Social Policies for the Roma in Europe, Spain and Murcia, organized by the Ministry of Social Policy, Women and Immigration to mark the European Year Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion.
The conference was inaugurated by the Minister of Social Policy, Joaquín Bascuñana.
Subsequently held a roundtable on social policies for the Roma in the European and national level, chaired by the Director General of Pensions, Assessment and Inclusion Programs Murciano Institute for Social Action (IMAS), Juan Castano attended the MEP Cristina Gutiérrez Cortines, who referred to European policies for the integration, the Director General of Social Policy, Families and Children, Ministry of Health and Social Policy, Juan Carlos Mato, who addressed National Action Plan for the Development of Roma (2010-2012), and National Director of FSG, Isidro Rodriguez, who focused his speech on the needs of the Gypsy community in Spain.
The second panel dealt with the actions to undertake for the promotion of the Roma community at the local level.
The Mayor of La Unión, Bernabe Francisco, developed a presentation entitled "Actions with the gypsy community of La Union. Special reference to those activities in the Roma Development Plan in the neighborhood of San Gil."
The neighborhood of San Gil in The Union is undergoing an ambitious restoration project that provides comprehensive, in addition to the rehabilitation of 60 homes (36 now completed) and the environment of this area of social rehabilitation work aimed at families neighborhood that is being implemented by the Social Services City of La Union through the Roma Development Plan.
Together with Barnabas, participated in the second panel, moderated by the Managing Director of the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS), Isabel Sola, father of the murdered girl Mari Luz in Huelva in 2008, Juan José Cortés, who spoke on integration of the Roma family, the Director of Alquibla, Antonio Garcia, whose company has hired Roma people through a program funded by the IMAS, and a flight attendant and part of this experience, Carmen Tome.
