The Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, Managing Director of Housing and Land Institute (IVS), Jane Brown, the Director General of Pensions, Assessment and Inclusion Programs Murciano Institute for Social Action (IMAS), Juan Castillo, and Director General of Family and Children, Laura Muñoz, yesterday officially opened the Community Center neighborhood of San Gil.
The Social Center of San Gil, whose local has been assigned by the Housing and Land Institute, is located in a refurbished block in the second phase of the overall restoration of this neighborhood.
It has different rooms for holding workshops and activities aimed at school support, vocational training and job search.
The Mayor, Francisco Barnabas, said that "the Social Center of San Gil is excellent news for achieving the goal we set in this neighborhood: its full recovery, not only urban but also socially."
For its part, the Managing Director of Housing and Land Institute, Jane Brown, said, "This clubhouse will serve as a support for people's personal development through the implementation of specific programs such as those aimed at children, young , women or unemployed. "
The Social Center of San Gil is shared by City Council Social Services Union, Fundación Sierra Minera San Gil and Gypsy Association.
In addition to the repossession of homes, the rehabilitation project of San Gil comprehensive work provides a social rehabilitation aimed at families in the neighborhood that is being executed by the municipal social services and the Fundación Sierra Minera.

The rehabilitation works of the houses in San Gil are the result of the agreement signed between the Ministry of Public Works, the City of La Union and the Sierra Minera Foundation for the complete rehabilitation of the area

The first phase, the recovery of 12 homes in the neighborhood, was completed in December 2008 and involved an investment of 600,000 euros.
