| With the incorporation of two new plots under the road of 33 | Thanks to the collaboration with the company Portmán Golf SL, owner of the two new farms that are incorporated into the project '33 en Verde ', the organizations ARBA Cartagena-La Unión and ANSE will be able to continue with the environmental restoration of the Sierra Minera de La Unión in this upcoming 2020-21 season. The '33 en Verde 'project was born in 2019 at the initiative of the Association for the Recovery of the Autochthonous Forest of Cartagena-La Unión (ARBA) and several residents of La Unión, an initiative to which the Association of Southeast Naturalists (ANSE) joined , and that, thanks to the collaboration of the City Council of La Unión, owner of the plot to be restored, the initial financing of non-local companies (Murcia Waste and Environmental Management and Treatments), the subsequent support of local companies and the great effort of many volunteers could come true.In the first phase, during the 2019-20 season, work has been done on an area of ??about 12,000 m2 on a municipal property plot under the road of 33 and the Agrupa Vicenta mine, and around 1,200 trees and shrubs have been planted.
autochthonous species, such as the Cartagena cypress (Tetraclinis articulata), the holm oak (Quercus rotundifolia), the mastic (Pistacia lentiscus) or the arto (Maytenus senegalensis).
Likewise, in collaboration with the Directorate General for the Natural Environment of the Region of Murcia, we have participated in the recovery program for the Cartagena rockrose (Cistus heterophyllus), a critically endangered species, with the implantation of some 40 specimens of this species provided by the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia. To ensure the survival of all planted trees and shrubs, a drip irrigation system has been installed. In addition to the reforestation with native species, a cistern that was in a dilapidated state, necessary for the storage of irrigation water, has been fixed, action has been taken on the plot, cleaning it of numerous debris that had been illegally dumped and invasive species have been eliminated , such as aloes or agaves, all thanks to the hard and selfless work of the volunteers and the City Council of La Unión, which took charge of the management and transport of the waste and the materials used. For the next 2020-21 season that begins this fall, Arba Cartagena-La Unión agreed with Portmán Golf SL the incorporation to the environmental restoration project '33 en verde 'of some 25,000 m2 of two new plots owned by the company, also under the Camino del 33.
The provision of the necessary material provided by Acciona SA has been possible thanks to the efforts of the City Council of La Unión and will allow the installation of the irrigation system to begin shortly.
It is estimated that around 2,800 seedlings of native species typical of the Sierra Minera can be planted on the new farms. On the other hand, ARBA Cartagena-La Unión and ANSE continue with the search for financing to complete the project of 33 in green with the expansion of the environmental restoration area, the start-up of a didactic arboretum of native species at the beginning of the route of the Mining Park and the installation of explanatory panels.
