This past Sunday, during the annual “Club Day” celebration, a “Manifesto for the Survival of Portman” was presented.
The manifesto, prepared by the Nautical Club of Portman, has been joined by hundreds of people worried about the eternal abandonment suffered by the Bay of Portman.
The President of the Portmán Yacht Club, Blas Isaac Calventus, has demanded the immediate start of the Bay's environmental recovery work.
"We ask the different political groups of the City Council of La Unión to forget their political colors and act with one voice, demanding the regeneration of our bay," said Blas Isaac.
He has also reminded those responsible for the Regional government of the need to resume the project of Puerto Deportivo, as well as the recovery of the old pier for traditional uses.
Finally, the president of the club has requested “the union of all the town associations, of the municipality, in collaboration with the business community, as a necessary element to take out this project and try to value the wonderful Portmán Bay”.
After the environmental aggression suffered for more than 30 years by authorized spills into the sea and which resulted in the total flooding and clogging of the Bay, thus considering the largest ecological disaster in the Mediterranean.
After different projects, initiatives, studies and several million euros of the public treasury invested in the environmental recovery of our Bay there is no significant progress or date for its regeneration.
Since 2006, the State, Autonomous and Local Administrations have signed an agreement for the recovery and environmental adaptation of our bay.
It included a series of actions focused on recovering the bay with an appropriate environmental treatment that also served as an element of economic and tourist revitalization of the area.
Today, for different reasons, the regeneration works of Portman Bay are paralyzed and without a start date.
