The Flamenco Center "La Merced" hosted the act in which they participated on behalf of Cadiz, its mayor, D. José María González, and on the Murcian side, his namesake Pachequero, D. Antonio León and the coordinator of the Festival de Lo Ferro, D Francisco Aparicio.
Mr. José María González, a Cadiz councilor, thanked the award and stressed "the pride that this recognition as a land with two universal languages, Carnival and Flamenco represents for Cádiz" and handed over to the Ferreña delegation a book by Beni de Cádiz and an album by Antonio Sellé.
The mayor of Torre Pacheco, Mr. Antonio León, recognized both the city itself and "the artists and the Cadiz associative fabric" as an element of vital importance in the dissemination of flamenco.
Our coordinator, D. Francisco Aparicio, influenced the important poster prepared for this XL edition of the ferreño festival, headed by artists of the stature of: Pitingo, Jesús Méndez, Paco Cepero and Samuel Serrano or Antonio Canales, among others.
After the institutional act, the Jerez-born Alberto Sánchez "El Almendro", Bastián Contreras, Antonio Fernández "El Torero" and Cynthia Cano offered those present a brushstroke of the ferreña way of seeing flamenco with notable success.
At night, the activity moved to the Peña Flamenca "Juanito Villar", where our artists set the flamenco standards very high and made the neighborhood of La Viña vibrate to its rhythm.
"El Almendro" with the touch of Antonio Fernández "El Torero" opened the evening, taking us by tientos-tangos, zambra, Manolo Caracol and closing by seguiriya.
Then, Cynthia Cano snatched the night with her soleá dance accompanied by the cante of Bastián Contreras and the touch of the young Mercedes Luján.
He continued "El Almendro" delighting with his cante of race and letting Cynthia Cano, por alegrías, put the end in the Peña Flamenca "Juanito Villar".
And Cádiz was, more than ever, much closer to Lo Ferro.
We remind that the registrations for our singing contest will be open until next May 20 and that the selective phase will be held on Saturdays, June 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 as well as on Saturday, July 6.
