The head of the ICA recalled during the presentation that "events like the one of La Union and companies like those that participate in it contribute to open the culture to the whole society, since they are free performances that star actors who, even if they do not work professionally to the theater, they transmit from the stage their enthusiasm for culture, thus also bringing the world of performing arts to new viewers ".
During the last evening, the National Theater Competition 'José Baeza Clemares' will award six prizes: the best company, the best director and the best actors and leading actresses and cast.
The award consists of a ceramic sculpture made by students of the center for people with disabilities Andrés Martínez Cánovas.
Baeza Clemares
José Baeza Clemares (Alumbres, 1857 La Unión, 1920) is one of the great names of the scene in La Unión.
His figure embodies the golden age of the theater in the mining city, lived between the late nineteenth century and the early twentieth.
For forty years, from 1880 to 1920, he worked as an actor, stage director and businessman for the company that bore his name.
Baeza interpreted and directed all kinds of productions, from comedy to drama, but he stood out above all for his versions of the works of Nobel Prize winner José Echegaray.
The Principal Theater of La Union witnessed its representations and a street of the town bears his name.
