The jeweler, Enrique Gijón, has given it to Pedro López Milán |
Bright and resplendent.
This is how the trophy that will elevate the best cantaor who climbs to the tables of the Old Public Market of La Unión arrives in this LVIII Edition of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas.
The trophy represents the main elements of the mining life, the carbide is the main element and was the real lamp that illuminated the miners in their descent to the underground galleries.
Other companions of the trophy are the marro and the peak, fundamental tools for the work in mining.
The trophy is made in sterling silver and alpaca of 10 microns.
It has been made by the Unionense jeweler artisan, Enrique Gijón.
The Gijón family are responsible for making the Mining Lamp for 50 years and are established in the municipality of La Union since 1848.
Along with the delivery of the Mining Lamp this morning and the rest of the trophies, all the awards that will be presented at the International Festival of Cante de las Minas are already guarded in La Unión.
During the reception of the trophy the Executive President of the Cante de las Minas Foundation and Mayor of La Unión, Pedro López Milán "the Mining Lamp is more than a trophy, it is a key, a before and after for the cantaor or cantaora who rises with her".
For López Milán "This is another step that tells us that the Festival of Cante de las Minas is very close and that there are still some tickets for flamenco lovers to enjoy this universal art in the Old Public Market of La Unión "
Despite being a generation of jewelers artisans, "the creation of the trophy takes its laboriousness about five months of work to make this piece of craftsmanship" said Enrique Gijón, following the original model made by the author Esteban Bernal unionense.
The Festival will be held from 1 to 11 August.
The longed for trophies will be put into play with the first semifinals of the contest that will take place from 8 to 10 in the Old Public Market.
The Cante de las Minas Foundation will assign a jury that will qualify for these tests that will finally award the Lámpara Minera, Bordón, Desplante and Filón awards, prizes to be awarded on the night of August 11.
The International Festival of Cante de las Minas is one of the most important festivals in the world and a great world reference that wants to find the future promises of flamenco.
These trophies are the clear example that its owner has conquered the demanding jury of La Unión with his art and has enthused the public of the Cathedral of Cante
