Red Cross received the Gold Medal of the Union (12/12/2009)

In an event held this morning in our Old Public Market, the City of La Union, through the hands of our Mayor, Francisco Bernabé, has made solemn presentation of Gold Medal of the City to the Local Assembly of the Red Cross, which has collected in the person of its president, Ramon Gijón.

The granting of this distinction, the highest awarded by our municipality, was approved unanimously by the plenary of the Municipal Corporation on 30th July 2009, all met on the occasion of this year the centenary of the Constitution of such a distinguished institution.

Our Local Assembly, in recognition of the selfless, heroic and humanitarian work that has been developed for the municipality, and has other high distinctions, such as "Necktie City Honor" in 1978 and awarded the Medal of the Order of Charity First Class granted by HM King Alfonso XIII in 1926.

The delivery of the medal is framed within a set of events held on the occasion of International Volunteer Day, which this year has had its regional headquarters in La Union, which has led to the presence, among the many existing authorities of the Director General Immigration and volunteering, Leopoldo Navarro, and the Red Cross Regional President, Aurelio Luna.

Throughout the morning, among other interventions have highlighted the launch of "One Hundred Years of the Red Cross, 1909-2009" by its author, Professor at the University of Murcia, D.

Miguel Angel López Morells and delivery of certificates to those associated with over 25 years of Red Cross membership.

The day concluded with a performance by the flamenco singer and guitarist Antońito Bastian.
