Cross stresses that the new municipal library "singled out the town of La Union" (26/05/2009)

The Minister of Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, accompanied by the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, today inaugurated the Municipal Public Library "Juan Pujol 'of this county.

The Minister stressed that this library "singles out The Union as a municipality that focuses on the book, as has also been singled out in the field of tourism with the recovery of its mining heritage."

The new facility, which has received an investment of 75,000 euros from the Ministry, have a play area and introduction to reading for children up to 6 years, large areas of study and reading, as well as periodicals, media and receipt and deposit of the bibliographical.

It also has a permanent space for the exhibition of personal belongings, books, photographs and other documents in the brothers Andrew (1894-1928) and Mary Cegarra Salcedo (1899-1993), writers and favorite sons of La Union.

"Betting on the book is betting on a basic culture and, above all, by a culture that aspires to democracy and to allow access to as many citizens and the maximum possible competition," said Pedro Alberto Cruz, who emphasized the "betting on the Union for Progress and know how to combine tradition and present in a dialogue is absolutely perfect."

Union City Council has also received other grants from the Ministry relating to the promotion of reading in 2008 and 2009 such as aid for the development of activities to promote reading, for a total of 1,508 euros for the acquisition of bibliographic (9905 euros) for the development of activities to promote reading (1,416 euros) and the acquisition of bibliographic (10,490 euros).
