El Cante de las Minas pay tribute this year to Vicente Amigo (08/04/2009)

Union, April 8, 2009.

The Mayor of La Union and President of the International Festival of Cante de las Minas, Francisco Bernabé, Councillor for Culture and Director of the Festival, Julio Garcia, and the Director General for Cultural Promotion, Antonio Martínez, presented at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, an increase of XLIX Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas to be held from 6 to 15 August.

The next edition of the Festival will pay tribute to the guitarist Vicente Amigo Córdoba, winner in 1988 of mining Bordon, first prize Flamenco Guitar Cante de las Minas.

Among the out-standing track record of Vicente Amigo include the appointment as the best flamenco guitarist by Guitar Player magazine in 1993 Music Awards in 1998 and 1999, the Latin Grammy for Best Flamenco Album in 2001 and the Premio Ondas in 2002 between other awards, which established him as one of the greats of flamenco guitar.

Another noteworthy aspect of the next Festival is adding a new award: the I Flamenco Instrumentalist Competition.

Will have a place in this competition all kinds of instrumental specialties: melodic instruments or monódicos (violin, flute, saxophone, etc.). Polyphonic instruments (piano, keyboards, etc..) Percussion (box drum, drums, castanets / sticks, etc. .) both acoustic and electronic sound (guitar and electric bass, synths, etc..), with the exception of the flamenco guitar that already has its own call.

Also included are new artists working with art systems (experimental music, electronics, etc.).

The registration period for the singing contest, Flamenco guitar and dance is April 30.

For its part, the deadline for registration Flamenco Instrumentalist Competition is June 15.

In another vein, has released the next headquarters of the selection tests of the competitions for the first time, will, on location, exclusively, provincial capitals, except the Union.

The venues that will host the selection tests are: Madrid (2), Barcelona, Granada (2), Salamanca, Valladolid, Murcia, Valencia, Albacete, Cáceres, La Union.

Testing will begin on the last dates of May to end the second week of July.

The website of the Festival is divided into six sections: Foundation, XLIX Festival, Information and Tourism of La Union, History of the Festival (posters, pictures, videos, publications), registration and ticket sales contests.

The special interest in the flamenco event of The Union notes with the numbers of entries to the festival website were recorded last year.

Only during the last half of last year, came to register more than 93,000 hits, coming from five continents, which reaffirms the idea of the universality of flamenco.
