Ramón Luis Valcárcel, a preacher of the mining Easter Union (13/03/2009)

The President of the Autonomous Community of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, will be the harbinger of Easter 2009 in La Union.

The President will deliver the opening speech on 4 April 2009, in the Eucharist at 20:00 pm in the Parish of Our Lady of the Rosary of the town.

Ramón Luis Valcárcel has expressed his "enthusiasm and excitement" to the work being assigned as a preacher of the Holy Week unionense.

For Easter Valcárcel Minera gets synthesize "the ingrained religious feelings of the people of La Union along with the traditions and customs of those living by extracting the wealth that holds its ground."

For his part, Brother Mayor-President of the Illustrious Confraternity of the Holy Christ of Miners, Jose Lopez, has said that the presence of President Valcárcel as a preacher is "an essential support for the growth of the Easter of The Union" noting that "the Guild is working with the City of La Union to ensure that our Easter is declared of National Tourist Interest."

Finally, Jose Lopez, said the "full support of the Brotherhood of the project undertaken by the Mayor to make a reality the Holy Week Museum of La Union."

Holy Week in La Union, includes the procession of Cristo de los Mineros, on Holy Thursday, declared of Regional Tourist Interest, and the Holy Burial Procession on Good Friday.

Almost unique and roots because of its close relationship with local mining tradition, Holy Week in La Union can look to the traditional portapasos carbide, and other useful miners.
