The mayor calls for this year the start of the regeneration of Portman (18/02/2009)

The Monitoring Committee of the Convention for the regeneration of Portman Bay was held this morning at the headquarters of the Delegation of the Government, with the presence of the three institutions that are part of the agreement (City of La Union and Autonomous central government).

Attended by the municipality of La Union, the Mayor of the city, Francisco Bernabé, and the Councillor for Infrastructure and Environment Carlos Martinez, for the Autonomous Region attended by the Minister of Public Works, José Ballesta, the Director General of Transport and Ports, Carmen Sandoval, and the Director General of Planning, Antonio Navarro, while the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine have taken part in the meeting the Chief of the Coastal Authority, Francisca Baraza, Secretary General del Mar, Juan Carlos Martín, General Director of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea, Alicia Paz.

Similarly, also attended the Delegate of the Government in the Region of Murcia, Rafael González Tovar, and the representative of the collective neighborhood Portman, Ginés Guerrero.

During the commission, the Ministry of Environment has stated that the project for the regeneration of Portman is currently in the process of environmental impact assessment, which will continue over the next three or four months.

For its part, the Ministry of Public Works has submitted the proposed new port built in the area after regeneration of the Bay by the Ministry.

The project, based on the winner of the contest of ideas "in situ", has gathered the main demands such as reducing neighborhood 1000 to 700-berth, environmental integration and recovery of the old fishing pier.

Similarly, it has agreed to set up a commission formed by the Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, the Chief of the Coastal Authority, Francisca Baraza, and the Director General of Planning, Antonio Navarro, who will deal with landowners in the Sierra participation in financing the project.

On the other hand, has made public the announcement of the next meeting of the Monitoring Committee for the Regeneration of the Bay to be held next summer in the village of Portman, which, the Mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé said to be "announced the tender for the works of the Bay without further delay as possible."

Bernabe pointed out that "The EU can not continue waiting, no longer fit more delays" to give a solution to what Greenpeace has called the greatest ecological attack committed in the Mediterranean. "

The cost of the work for the regeneration of Portman Bay is 119 million euros with a lead time of 27 months.
