The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, today visited the bay of Portman accompanied by the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, and presented the progress of the project the new port is planned to be built after regeneration of the area .

During the visit, the Minister said: "The new infrastructure will have on the southern edge of a green zone of separation between the port and the beach which will occupy an area exceeding 26,000 square meters."

Also said that "the port will have 718 berths which will be distributed in 32,000 square meters, of which 171 can accommodate yachts from 7 meters in length and 547 vessels up to 20 meters."

To integrate the port in the environment and improve the performance landscape, vessels of great length shall be provided near the pedestrian walkway that will border the facility, which also plans to use a reserved area for fishing.

In addition, the mooring of vessels will be carried out directly on springs, with an innovative geometry in the form of broken trees.

The director and the mayor emphasized that the facility has been designed as an 'internal sea' dug in the ground (the project will be implemented in the sand and through excavations, will communicate with the sea), taking as its starting position regenerated by the beach environment, through the team of researchers from the University of Murcia.

The mayor of La Union welcomed the project design, based on the winner of the contest of ideas 'in situ', and "has collected the main demands neighborhood, including environmental integration, the recovery of the old fishing port and reduction of moorings from 1,000 to 700 today. "
