The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment will be released soon tender the project, amounting to 59.5 million euros, so that work can begin before the end of this year

The general director of Sustainability of the Coast and Sea Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Raquel Orts, announced today at the Monitoring Committee for the environmental recovery of Portman Bay, located in the municipality of La Union (Murcia), who works for the regeneration and environmental soundness of the bay will begin before year's end.

Orts has also stressed that the project planned by the Ministry in 2011, already has the authorization from the Council of Ministers.

The general director of Sustainability and the Sea Coast presided today at the Government Office of Murcia the meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, the Autonomous Community of Murcia and the Union Hall.

As stated Orts, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, through the Department of Sustainability of the Coast and the Sea, will be tendered this project immediately, so that work can begin before the end of this year, amounting to 59,536,680 euros, divided into five annual installments.

The deadline for execution of the work will be 46 months.

The contract award will be made by open procedure several criteria, including the presentation aimed at reducing the amount of construction waste environmental improvements will be assessed.

The project will have joined environmental remedial measures and complementary corresponding Environmental Monitoring Plan, according to the positive Environmental Impact Statement published in the Official Gazette on February 22, 2011.

WITHDRAWAL OF 2 million cubic meters of waste

The project involves the dredging of sterile deposited in the bay to delay the current shore line at 250 meters.

For it shall be removed from the bay about 2 million cubic meters of overburden, which will move to the short mining of San Jose, in the same province and autonomous community.

Also includes the regeneration of the new beach, providing sand to improve it.

BACKGROUND OF THE ACTION

Portman Bay was polluted, until 1992 discharges from mines of La Union.

48 million m3 of mining waste was poured.

In order to remove the spilled material in the bay, regenerating and restoring its environmental values, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has already contracted in 2011 the implementation of a project.

Faced with irregularities in the procurement process it will be desisted from that performance.

In 2014 public tender for the granting of an administrative concession for the same purpose was tendered.

In this tender only one company that finally did not provide the documents required in the procedure was introduced, so this had to be declared void by the Ministry.

COMMITMENT OF THE MINISTRY WITH BAY REGENERATION

However, the Ministry shows its commitment to the regeneration of the Bay and its commitment to carry out the action to return to the area its environmental and scenic wealth with maximum guarantees both technical and environmental, in collaboration with the Autonomous Region and the City Council of the Union and within the framework of strict compliance with the law.
