The Civil Guard gets nine tons of metal material declared BIC (09/10/2014)

Researchers have enjoyed the cooperation of various scrap yards in the region

The Civil Guard in the region of Murcia has developed the operation 'SELFIE', aimed at clarifying several robberies committed in a set of facilities declared of Cultural Interest (BIC) in the Sierra Minera Portman, and has culminated with the arrest two suspects and the recovery of more than nine tons of stolen metal parts.

The operation is framed in the 'Plan for the defense of the Spanish Historical Heritage', launched by the Civil Guard and has involved the implementation of specific service devices in order to increase the security of Spanish Historical Heritage and reduce the activity criminal in this sector.

Agents Team ROCK (burglary in the field) Cartagena initiated research to detect the commission of several robberies in one of the old facilities of the Sierra Minera, particularly in the mineral washing and store called Roberto and based in Portman 'The Union.

The Meritorious conducted a thorough technical and visual inspection of the scene to collect all possible clues about the perpetrators of the robberies and carried out a detailed study of metal items taken in order to detect their illicit trade.

Soon after, the ROCK team identified the two young men who allegedly were behind the theft of the material and its illicit sale at various centers management and recycling of metals, which, after obtaining all necessary evidence, have been arrested and brought to justice as alleged perpetrators of burglary and against the historical heritage.

Three companies of the metal sector, Civil Guard have recovered more than a thousand metal parts of the machinery of the Sierra Minera, as plates, tapas and thickeners drives, mill parts, augers and pump shafts embones among others, show a weight of 9,000 kg.

Coordination with the Heritage Service of the CARM

After the recovery of stolen on the premises of mine materials, the Guardia Civil has been coordinated with the Heritage Service of the Directorate General of Cultural and Artistic Education of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Universities of the Region of Murcia ( CARM) to assess the damage and restore the pieces to their proper location.

The Spanish prisoners, 32 and 22, residents of La Union and a criminal record for similar crimes, recovered effects and the proceedings have been brought before the Magistrate's Court in Cartagena (Murcia).
