Today marks 120 years since the Union holds the title of city (06/02/2014)

It was the 6th of February 1894 when the Minister of the Interior Joaquín López Puigcerver, fulfilling orders of the Queen Regent Maria Cristina, issued Royal Decree under which the title of City was officially granted La Union, in response to highlights the importance of public merits of our town.

The text of that provision, further treatment of Excellence awarded to the Corporation (only five municipalities of the Region of Murcia hold such consideration) says literally:

"Wanting to give a token of my appreciation to the Villa Real de La Unión, Murcia, for its agricultural and commercial importance and the increasing development of its people, on behalf of my son Augusto King Alfonso XIII and Queen as Regent of the Kingdom, come on give him the title of City. Given at Palace, February 6 of 1,894. María Cristina. "

Our Mayor, Francisco Bernabé, wanted to highlight the importance of this anniversary and has announced the completion of a series of cultural and institutional events to commemorate this event type as well as others that will take place throughout this year.
