The Community supports the Fair of Minerals and Fossils of The Union brings together 47 exhibitors (18/03/2013)

The Minister for Universities and Research Company, José Ballesta, today with the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, and the president of the Federation of Business and Professional Union, Mariano Miranda, the 17th edition of the Fair Minerals and Fossils to be held from 28 to 30 March at the Old Public Market and the town will host a total of 47 exhibitors.

During the ceremony, José Ballesta was supported by the Community "initiative rooted in the tradition of The Union and fully consolidated" and highlighted as this show is among the top three fairs in the country, along with those of Madrid and Barcelona, in terms of national significance, since, he said, is "a clear reflection of the rich mining heritage of the region."

As in previous editions, the mineral show brings together a broad representation of national exhibitors from the Basque Country, Catalonia, Castilla Leon, Castilla La Mancha, Madrid, Valencia, Navarra, Andalusia and Murcia, which bind participants from Portugal.

In this regard, the Minister stressed "the wide range of minerals and fossils that make up a heterogeneous sample and high quality".

Thematic Exhibition

Each year the show is complemented by an exhibition of different theme to be found in the curious elements and related mineral shows, and this year is going to expose several reproductions of dinosaurs.

These replicas allow us to understand the evolution of carnivorous dinosaurs over time and see how a group of them survived.

They are made following strict scientific criteria and are reliable in full original dinosaurs in shape, color and anatomical position.

Specifically state the replica of a 'Herrerasaurus Ischigualastensis', which measures eight feet long and five feet high, a specimen that lived during the Triassic period 230 million years ago in what is now South America.

In addition, two replicas show 'velociraptors mongolensis', measuring five feet long and are mounted in different positions to observe their behavior.

The original came from Mongolia and lived 75 million years ago.

Also, the program of activities will be completed with the awards for best booth, best mineral Sierra exposed and best piece, and a draw among all participants of the Fair a valuable mineral.

Finally, during the show will honor the oldest miner of the Sierra Minera de Cartagena-La Union, which will be given a plaque for his work, and this year was awarded to Juan Perez Ros.

The Fair is organized by the Federation of Associations of Entrepreneurs and Professionals Union, in collaboration with the City unionense, the Ministry of Universities and Research Company, the Regional Assembly, the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Cartagena and the Confederation Business Organizations Cartagena (COEC).
