The new ZAL the Port will develop between Cartagena and La Union (29/01/2013)

The Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Cartagena has been the site where today presented the project of the New Logistics Activity Zone (LAZ) the port of Cartagena, in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Works Public and Regional Planning of the Region of Murcia, Antonio Sevilla, the Mayor of Cartagena, Pilar Barreiro, our Mayor, Francisco Bernabé, and the President of the Chamber of Commerce, Miguel Martinez, all accompanied by the two councils Aldermen and all representatives of the business sector in the region.

The presentation has been done by Professor José Manuel Vassallo, PhD in Civil Engineering and Ports from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a degree in Economics from the UNED.

He currently serves as Professor of Economics and Transport Planning in the School of Civil Engineering and Ports of Madrid, and author of the technical report supporting this project that will benefit directly from the municipalities of Cartagena and La Union.

The new ZAL is configured as a large industrial space and facilities designed to serve the future needs of new business development areas linked to the activity of the port of Cartagena and its docks.

The same will be located the new intermodal rail station that welcomes the arrival of the Mediterranean corridor for freight at high speed and it will be located next to Roche, which will turn this town into a major enclave Looking continuous flow of people, goods and equipment which will require the implementation of the infrastructure.

The ZAL will be developed in different phases: the first situated between Alums, Roche and La Union, which included the aforementioned railway station, and subsequent, to the north of the first, and that will be developed in parallel both F40 road, which links the Union with the Camachos, as access to the motorway towards Escombreras.

Francisco Bernabé has outlined huge financial and that will mean for the future having achieved after multiple negotiations, which our town hosting a very important part of the LAZ and even the train station, because this will ensure that the Union will direct economic benefit through investment and job creation in all industrial activity that is to be developed in the port of Cartagena.
