The IES María Cegarra of La Union is committed to the English and their European dimension (23/11/2010)

Union, 23 November 2010.

The IES María Salcedo Cegarra of La Union is proving by far its intention of encouraging their students and faculty interest in the English language, a commitment that began last year thanks to the exchange with a central Denmark, which has been initialed year with its participation in the European project 'Comenius'.

Thus, the Union welcomed since last Sunday, and until 27 November, a total of sixteen students and seven high school teachers from Italy, Turkey, Poland and Bulgaria, as part of an academic exchange with the participation with as many students and teachers in a unionense, who travel to these countries at different stages of 2011 and 2012.

María José Vélez, professor of English and coordinator of this initiative in the IES María Cegarra, explains that the center is a multilateral partnership "Animal Protection in Europe ', which are part of Germany, Greece, Turkey, Romania, Portugal, Italy and Spain, which has enabled them to receive a grant of 14,000 Euros from the European Union to trade for two years.

"Students will visit cultural sites such as the Mining Park of La Union and Puerto de Culturas" he says, "and others related to the project, called 'Tourism Ecology vs.' as Calblanque Natural Park, the Nature Classroom Los Urrutias (Cartagena) Murcia or the Aquarium, where it has been playing the seahorse in captivity. "

Through this initiative, which aims to strengthen the European dimension in nursery, primary and secondary, and reinforce the mobility of students and faculty, students are selected for academic excellence to develop, together, work and research that will be reflected in a book and uploaded to the web portal 'eTwinning'.

Another interesting aspect of this exchange is that foreign students are hosted by families in the municipality, so that during these days will have the opportunity to learn a new culture, customs and, of course, the local cuisine.

Such is the case of Encarni Sanes, studying first degree in the IES María Cegarra, and home to two students from Italy and Turkey.

"It's the first time we welcome someone at home and being a great experience, also for my parents," she admits, because "I like not only English, but my parents have always wanted to know to speak, so they are delighted. "

Encarni travel to Italy next year, which will have its first European experience and use English as their primary means of communication.

PROMOTE THE IMPORTANCE OF ENGLISH

One of the basic requirements to participate in initiatives such as Comenius is a good level of English, why the IES María Cegarra had to select the students based on their level of foreign language, leaving out other interested students.

Therefore, given the need to boost interest in other languages, the center already has an English Language Assistant.

Agnieszka Zadjer is Assistant English in the IES María Cegarra, thanks to Comenius.

Student of English in Poland, this girl of 22 years believes that, in general, the level of Spanish students is not as high as that of his country, and there is much to be done, because "students are not accustomed to communicate in English and are shy about talking. "

This is something they know well in school Sabina Mora of La Union, in its effort to promote foreign language among the smallest, has emerged as the first cooperative authorized by the Ministry of Education to be bilingual school, why who this weekend received a Distinction by the Union of Cooperative Education in the Region of Murcia (Ucoerm).
