The president of the Hydrographic Confederation of Segura, María del Rosario Quesada, and the mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, today placed the first stone for the restoration and social integration of four boulevards of the town, such as the downloader, the workshop, Porras and Duende.

This initiative, which has a budget of close to 2 million euros, is aimed at protecting and regenerating the natural environment and reducing pollution in one of the most valuable ecosystems in the Region of Murcia.

The main reason is that the four wadis flow into the Mar Menor, and can receive tows that reach this gap in case of rain and causing environmental degradation, a fact that makes the sparse vegetation that grows in the vicinity of the channels.

Therefore, the works are starting consist in stabilizing margins and the bed of the river, the execution of works and road pass, the environmental restoration of the riverbed and its banks for the use of the neighbors and the allocation to space for recreational and leisure areas.

In particular, the works include:

Cleaning the riverbed.

Building walls to protect margins gavones in areas of instability, generally located on the bottom of the slope.

Larotección the breakwater created in a section of the bed of the Rambla de El Duende, a distance of 103 feet, to protect the area from erosion by water.

The placement of sediment retention dams as a preventive measure in the header of the channels.

The continuous reinforcement concrete frame potential flood stages in the Rambla de Downloader, leaving the underground channels and ensuring the safety of the nearby population.

The social conditioning of one of the areas on the masonry of the Rambla de Downloader with street furniture such as bins, benches and planters with native species.

Revegetation in the catchment areas through planting or conditioning the ground for the development of natural vegetation.

The mayor of La Union, Francisco Bernabé, welcomed the presence of the president of the CHS in laying the foundation stone and assessed as a "great success" channeling works and refurbishment of the wadi, which will undoubtedly mean " a huge benefit to the Union. "
