Public Works promotes urban renewal and regeneration of the Barrio de San Gil in La Union (20/08/2010)

The regional government also financed the rehabilitation of the new headquarters of the municipal social services in the building of the old slaughterhouse

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, said today that the Community and the City of The Union continue the push for urban renewal and regeneration of the Barrio de San Gil in the municipality, classified as an Area of Integrated Rehabilitation (ARI .)

Since the Housing and Land Institute (SVI), to date, has invested over two million in the refurbishment of 35 social housing for first two phases of the project to regenerate the area, which responds to an agreement between Public Works, City Hall unionense and the Ministry of Housing.

"This is a global social integration project to rehabilitate a total of 60 houses, provision of services and support to families from neighboring Sierra Minera Foundation and City Council social services, aiming to promote economic and social progress of the Barrio de San Gil, "said the counselor.

New facilities to serve citizens

The regional government finances also works for the rehabilitation of the new headquarters of the municipal social services in the building of the old slaughterhouse, with a grant of € 255,000 over 50 per cent financed by the ministries of Public Works and Planning Planning and Social Policy, Women and Migration.

This building, with an area exceeding 400 square meters, is located on the street of the same name and occupies an entire block.

The construction access is through a lobby that connects the two main buildings, 90 square meters each, and with other units around a courtyard.

Through the work for the comprehensive rehabilitation of the building is being carried out renovation and upgrading of existing facilities, the placement of new walls and floors, adding a lift, and the provision of equipment necessary for the development of activities and functions of Social Services.

"Since the regional government will subsidize performances of rehabilitation and refurbishment of buildings for public use, as in this case, involve the community benefit of a service for the welfare of all citizens," José Ballesta.
