Ángeles González-Sinde visit mines recovered in La Union (06/08/2010)

The Government of Spain has invested 2.2 million euros in tourism development in the Sierra Minera and the Festival del Cante de las Minas

The Union, August 6, 2010 .- The Minister of Culture, Ángeles González-Sinde, visited this morning some of actions that the City has done in old mines of the Union with funding from the Government of Spain, with the to recover the historical and cultural heritage of the municipality and improve the tourist appeal of it.

The minister, who is in La Union to attend tonight at Festival del Cante de las Minas, has been accompanied on the visit by the Government Delegate, Rafael González Tovar, who explained the investments made in the municipality under State Funds 2009 and 2010.

In this sense, González Tovar has reminded the inauguration, a week ago, the improvement and rehabilitation works of the Old Public Market and the new Museo del Cante de las Minas.

The museum said Cante de las Minas is located in Pinon House, listed as a Cultural, which have carried out various works of adaptation and refurbishment of walls, ceiling, new wiring, and air conditioning.

It has also enabled a new access from the lobby.

The new facilities are ready for audiovisual presentations, models, and conference rooms.

The works have cost 200,800 euros and created 12 jobs.

As for the renovation and improvement of the municipality BIC another building, the Old Public Market, home of the National Festival of Cante de las Minas, those have included the adaptation integral spaces for toilets and improved access to them, with reforms in flooring, carpentry, electrical and general painting and acting to repair the windows of the north façade, and maintenance of building facades in the Old Market.

The cost of the work has been of 99,700 euros and has created three jobs.

González Tovar has informed the Minister that the Municipality of La Union has received state funding in 2009 and 2010 a total of 4,764,565 euros are being invested to fund 25 construction projects and 4 municipal spending programs on social policies.

These projects are expected to create a total of 240 jobs and also finance some 6,500 social actions in aid for the maintenance of schools, an additional social support program, the home help service and support program for acquisition textbook.

State Funds 2009 and 2010 funded by the Ministry of Planning Policy, have invested in various activities related to tourism development in the Sierra Minera and the Festival del Cante de las Minas, as the two above which opened last week and various activities at the mine remunerated for their rehabilitation (200,000 euros) and the provision of access to it and its museological (120,000 euros), or the new Museum of Ethnology Roche (150,000 euros).

On the other hand, explained that, since 2004, the Government of Spain has invested 2,232,638 euros in the development of tourism in the Sierra Minera and the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas.

In this regard, the government delegate recalled that the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Trade has invested 600,000 euros in the Tourism Promotion Plan "Sierra Minera".

He added in a complementary manner other additional € 200,000 in the recovery of Paul and Virginia mine.

Investments in the scheme, made by the three administrations have allowed less than a month inaugurated the Mining Park of La Union.

On the other hand, we must remember that the Ministry of Culture, who heads Angeles Gonzalez-Sinde, this year has allocated 128,700 euros to the Festival Nacional del Cante de las Minas, the greater of those provided by public administrations.

In addition, the state's economic cooperation has grown significantly over the past three years, rising in the period 2004-2010 to 662,000 euros.
