The Governing Council has approved the granting of a grant of 75,000 euros to the Cante de las Minas Foundation to contribute to its operating expenses during the year 2018, charged to the budget of the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts of the Region of Murcia (ICA), attached to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Environment.
The foundation is a non-profit organization, constituted in February 2010 under the auspices of the Community, the Ministry of Culture and the City Council of La Union, and all its members are committed to participate in its annual budget.
Its general purposes, of public and social interest, are research, publication, support for interdisciplinary projects and the convening of congresses and meetings related to the world of flamenco, although its main purpose is the management of the International Festival of Cante de las Mines
This festival celebrates its 58th edition this year, which confirms its consolidation in the Region and places it as the leader of flamenco festivals throughout the country.
Account since 1984 with the declaration of National Tourist Interest and the mining and east singings were declared Cultural Assets of an Immaterial Character in 2010. It is the only festival in the Region that has such distinction.
