The Governing Council has approved a grant of 75,000 euros to the Foundation Cante de las Minas to collaborate in their operating costs during the year 2016 under the Institute of Cultural Industries and Arts of Murcia budget (ICA), attached to the Ministry of Culture and Spokesperson.
That foundation is a non profit organization, formed in February 2010 under the auspices of the Community, the Ministry of Culture and the City of La Union, and all members are committed to participate in its annual budget.
Its general purpose, public and social interest are research, publishing, support for interdisciplinary projects and the convening of conferences and meetings related to the world of flamenco, although its main purpose is to manage the lnternational Festival of Cante de las mines.
This festival celebrates its 56th edition, which accredits its consolidation in the region and places it as a leader of flamenco festivals across the country.
The festival has since 1984 with the declaration of National Tourist Interest and mining songs and lift were declared of Cultural Interest immaterial in 2010. It is the only festival in the region with such distinction.
