The regeneration project Portman Bay wins by 32.1 million euros (22/04/2016)

The Ministry of Public Works and Infrastructure reports that the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, through the jury, proceeded to the award of the works of regeneration and environmental soundness of Portman Bay to the joint venture formed by the Marco and Ciomar companies, with a project valued at more than 32.1 million euros, including VAT, as confirmed today to the Community the Ministry of Environment.

The Minister of Public Works and Infrastructures, Francisco Barnabas, said that "it is certainly great news for the region and the Spanish society that can once again find a bay with which we all have a historical debt and already finally give comprehensive solution ".

Barnabas expressed the satisfaction of the Community by this decision "it puts light at the end of the tunnel after serving 25 years of the cessation of discharges and allow us to get back the splendor to this jewel of the Spanish Mediterranean coast so that you have the best and most competitive conditions and become a benchmark for quality tourism and generation of wealth and employment ".

He stressed that the regional government "strongly committed to the development of the bay as a strategic project for the region, a commitment that goes beyond the total regeneration, promoting the Government of Spain and the regional government to restore the natural state of this zone".

The works, which will have an execution period of 46 months will consist in recovering 250 meters seaward from the coastline which was modified as a result of landfilling activity carried out in the bay for decades.

Waterfront today is situated 550 meters from the original and with a depth of about four meters, so the work will focus on the removal of about two million cubic meters of overburden, which will move to the cut mining of San Jose.

For the creation of the new beach today's materials be reused and limestone sand machaqueo be provided to improve its grading.
